severed finger gelatine prosthetic

ok here is a quick post as there is not much to this apart from the getting the colouring right on the fingers,
depending on how you want the fingers to look,

well here goes i started by taking a copy of my finger with a skin safe no water based silicone, you have about  5 minute work time with this so no need to rush just make sure you have a go coverage and no air bubbles....it will be set after 30 mins depending on which silicone you use, then i removed it from my thumb, i also did one of my finger as well.

i melted one block or cube of 300 bloom fx gelatine i got mine from mouldlife, but ive found what looks like a better gelatine from a company called nimbus creations which comes pre coloured in flesh which will make colouring easier next time.

with one block melt it in the microwave in small bursts of 5 seconds and stir each time. dont let it boil.

once melted and coloured , which after a few failed starts i found that liquid foundation and food
colouring is the best way to go i poured the gelatine in the mould then poured it back out to to make sure it gets a nice first detail layer......check for air bubbles then pour the rest back in.

i then stood it up in the freezer for 30 mins to speed up the setting and cooling time once out of the freezer let it warm to room temperature squeezing the mould gently and slowly pull out the finger and its ready for painting  as bellow

here is the thumb straight out the mould with the index finger all pained

and there you go ready to goar away lol

as an add on to this blog i have also made severed toes and now ears

colouring the best a cheapest way ive found is to use a liquid foundation and food colouring to add the reds an blues you find in human skin colour works good...

bellow are the pics of the new items...

Skull build and painting

well it comes around jsut once a year but always a busy time of year even though i have 12 months each time i always leave it to the last 6 weeks before Halloween to get out a few projects ready to go lol .....here is my skull of the dug up variety i started by making a 2 part silicone mould of the original this was the first time ive used silicone as a full moulding solutions.

unfortunately i did photograph the moulding of the original as was
concentrating on silicone moulding and getting it right as its
expensive material.. here is the first pick ive got of the moulding
process of the original i made boxes for the skull cap main head
and the jaw

once the moulds had cured over night i then dismantled the 3 separate mould boxes and split the 2 part moulds up giving me the moulds ready to cast resin into, i was very surprised at the amount of detail that the silicone got.

here are the two moulds for the skull cap and the jaw bone came out really nice and not much seem work to do iether

bellow is the skull its self

this is the first pour of resin im using the easy flo 60 for pour casting followed by casting the head and jaw, it has a 2.5 min work time and 30 min de mould time, although i leave it for an hour to harden properly.

these pics bellow are the first pull of the
skull from the mould as you can see the
seems are pretty clean so not much work
need to clean them up. i made the pour
hole in place that if there was any chance
of trapped air it would be in place which
would hide them or be easy to fill in later.

i decided to put it all together for a test fit before i did all the fine finishings, ive attached the jaw with a return spring which works great and holds the jaw in place perfectly.

once i finished the seems and was happy with it i gave the skull a paint over with a white primer as a base coat ready for ageing.

i aged the skull and teeth and attached the skull cap
which has come out really good, but for some reason
when i take a pic i get the green glow on the from of the
skull which isnt there i think its the florescent lights in
my workshop.

im now in two mind as to weather or not i ad flesh to the skull for more effect maybe i will with latex and post up a pic.
